Hit or miss doesn't begin to describe it. One day you basically can swat the redheads with your gun barrel, and a few days later you're wondering where in the hell they all went.
The birds are getting smart and rafting up in big bunches where they know they won't get shot at. They do the wonderful get up fly around and sit right back down.....**** frustrating. Over the last 10 or so hunts we are yet to limit out mainly due to the fact of just redheads and pintails in our areas.
We've tried to get some widgeon, teal, and gadwalls to fill our limits. However, when we go to backwater we usually only get a few shots and then the birds will start landing about 200 yds. away in another little pond. Its hell trying to decoy birds away from that.
All in all after my rambling, I would try for puddle ducks in the morning before they all raft up, or try for your redheads and pennies in the afternoon.
