We had 4 boys n 1 girl come down from Miss along with 2 local boys hunting with us this past w/e. All except the girl had taken deer last yr with us and this yr was no different. They took 5 bucks with the biggest being a 6 pt, 2 3pts, 2 spikes along with 4 does. The rut was in full swing and although bigger bucks were seen they would not present a shot for the boys. 2 of the boys were 9 y/o and already well on their way to becoming good hunters with one of them taking his 11th deer. The girl was on her first hunt and after 3 misses she finally connected for her first deer. 2 of the men bow hunted and both took does turning down several small bucks. Sat morn Brantley, one of the 9 y/o boys downed the first doe that hit the food plot with a perfect shot, and shortly after a doe entered the plot with a 130 class 10pt hot on her heels, I/m thinking the dad was more excited than his son, this buck would not stop long enough for the boy to take a shot, when the doe headed out of the plot the dad hollared out the window and the buck stopped and the boy took a shot and missed. After they calmed down and was talking about what had just happened they came back into the plot and the buck stopped again facing the boy and he missed again, and off they went. Jackie the other 9y/o also took a doe on his first shot after watching several deer including a cpl of spikes n 4pts running the does around for much of the morn, Sunday morn was no different with everyone seeing a few deer. Jackie and his dad after seeing 4 deer with 1 spike left their stand and glassed a feeder at a unhunted stand, with 2 bucks under the feeder, they went into the 'stealth mode' and eased up to the feeder sometimes crawling to within 100yrds, Jackie told his dad he could make the shot and that he did, the 7mm-08 did the job again, this was this boys 11th deer >>at 9y/o. These 2 younger boys really impressed me with determination and turning down multiple small bucks, I overheard one telling the other the 6pt probally would score 70, I asked him how he came up with that and his reply was "no mass" and I about fell over. I was only able to get a pic of Jackies 6pt as the others (older boys) didnt want a pic of them with a lesser deer than the 9y/o had taken. They left for Miss with coolers full and big smiles by all. The pics are Jackie and his dad with his 6pt and another of Brantley (the scorer)with Jackies buck.
