why ? go get the remington feeder from academy, its a 40 gallon plastic that will never rust, complete with timer for up to 4 feedings a day, for 99 bucks. I built my own last year and I will never do that again, 99 bucks and all i have to do is put corn in it
Well you can buy a 55 gal barrel for 25 bucks, leg brackets for 25 bucks, and find most anything for support legs. Probably 75 for the barrel etc. and get a timer for about 40 bucks. Just depents on which way you want to go. The 40 gal deal from Academy is not too bad. Just kinda small barrel
I have had on for five years and that hasnt happened.
Plastic barrels are the way to go, or at the very least plastic lids for the 55 drum, this is what rusts out fast.(The metal lid )
Been using two of them for 3 years now and not a problem, they are great feeders, plus they are light as all heck if you want to move them it doen't take and army.
The drum costs $20, legs (galvanized 10' fence posts) say $30-$40, leg brackets?, and some paint. If it has the smooth galvanized lid that costs $20 by itself. So used, I'd say $50-$75.
I did not see the "ladder" when I read it the first time. A 3 legged feeder with a ladder (on most feeders with a ladder that I've seen, the 3rd leg is the ladder) may be nice/well made and originally real pricey-so I'll revise my original estimate to $100.
I just did this and this is what I came up with. Used the top rail of a chain link fence for legs and the barrel was free just had to get it sand blasted.
Leg Brackets, Funnel, Varmint Guard bought at Academy.
Paint and Legs Bought at Home Depot.
Sand Blast $15.00 Paint $26.55 Leg Brackets $31.88 Legs $31.84 Funnel $14.74 Varmint Guard $17.72 Total $137.73
