I know a few of you guys have gsps, and I am looking to get myself one, but I don't know if there are any breeders around the houston area (give or take 100 miles). I have found several people that breed for show, but not any that are exclusively breeding gun dogs. If anybody has any leads please let me know. I am looking for a started dog, but I wouldn't rule out a puppy. Thanks for help in advance.
I got mine from a breeder in Boerne, only a couple of hours a way. I know he sales started dogs also. His e-mail address is on the home page, so give him a holler and see what he has availble. Good Luck. http://www.bluemountainpreserve.com
When I started looking for a vizsla, the gulf coast vizsla club helped put me in contact with breeders. I ended up finding a great dog and a good friendship with his breeder. Try this contact if you havent already.
Let them know your looking for a hunting dog, not a show dog and they will know who to put you in contact with.
last word: you'll talk to alot of people who do field trials, good field trial dogs indicate good hunting genes, but personaly I like to see breeders that actualy hunt their dogs too.

Are you in a big hurry for a pup? I will be breeding my GSP after the first of the year. She has her Senior Title and will be breeding to a male that has his Master Title. Her dad has his Master Title.
I should have added that I spend 3 weeks a year in Kansas and Nebraska hunting pheasant and quail and also help on guided hunts when needed. So these dogs get a lot of bird work.
I am set up so you can see the dogs work at anytime.
As a matter of fact I am not in any big hurry on a dog. If it all worked out I would like to get a started dog this year and pup sometime next year. IMO it is a whole lot more fun to watch 2 work than 1 work, so at some point I will be getting a pup. If you have any pictures handy you can post them up or e-mail them to me. Send me a pm if you need my e-mail address.
I got mine from www.wildrosegermanshorthairs.com. He is located near Fort Worth, but well worth the drive. He runs a great line. Charles Rose the breeder.
I have had numerous GSPs. I still have three. At the moment only a few good breeders come to mind, but Charles Rose is not one of them. I absolutly would not buy a dog from him. If you want more information PM me your phone number and we will talk.

Rob Martin breeds good dogs. In Bullard, TX which is northeast Texas. He's usually got started dogs and he's got a litter coming in Feb. My pup was well worth the drive. www.germanbirddogs.com
I just looked at Rob's bloodlines. If it was based on just bloodlines I would want a dog out of hes dog Jewell. I sold some semen to a guy in South Carolina for him to use in breeding his dogs. He might have some good ones.

My pup is out of Maggie and Will. She's one of the hardest hunting, biggest running shorthairs I've seen. great dog. He's got a litter coming out of Caliente and a littermate of Maggie.
Guys, thanks for all the responses on this I actually got a 2 year old male from Charles Rose and I cannot be more pleased with him. We hunted 4 days in Northern Oklahoma over the holidays and in a foot of snow this dog did awesome. He was actually a rescue dog that charles took in at 8 months old and did a little work with him and saw potential in him so he kept him. I had him put another 30 days on him and it was money well spent. As a matter of fact I have already put my name on his list for another puppy. Charles is a top notch guy and I would reccomend him and his dogs to anyone.
