Hi folks, got a few questions I could use some input on about the Game Camera below.
I was given a Moultrie GameSpy d40 to test a while back. 4.0 megapixel camera, that uses 6 "D" batteries.
Got it up and running on September 30th. Put in the back yard to test for a while on our local deer population and moved it to our hunting lease on October 6th.
Went back to the lease this weekend and took the 1gig card out and put in a new one. Card was in the camera for 3 weeks.
Put the card in a regular camera and saw that it had taken 1222 pictures!
Last picture was taken October 13th. Looked at the pictures on October 20th, this Saturday. Went back and saw battery life was 0%. Camera had run through 1222 pictures in about two weeks.
Pictures were good quality.
Here is what I am wondering about:
I'm guessing the 1222 pictures is pretty good, the user manuel says the camera should take 1997 medium pictures and 951 high resolution pictures. So the camera has done pretty good about taking the right number of pictures.
The problem is that the camera took about 860 night pictures of nothing but an ocassional bug flying by and about 90 or so night pictures with various animals in the pictures. A total of 950 or so night pictures
Is it normal for this camera or all game cameras to take so many night pictures of nothing? That is about 91% of the night pictures showing nothing.
A lot of the night pictures were 4,5, or 6 minutes a part and had nothing in the picture that would activate the sensor. There were picture totals for various nights of 136, 141, 117, 108 97, and lower numbers. I can imagine what it looked like to have the camera flashing and taking pictures all night long, every 4,5,6 minutes all night.
Over 90% of the night pictures showed nothing, no hinnie leaving the view, etc, nothing.
Is there something that can be done to make the camera not take so many pictures so close together of nothing, or is this what others have experienced with other game cameras?
The user manuel describes selecting the Multi-shot option and as well as event delay. Either one of those a possible option? Aim the laser a bit lower? Turn off the night flash option?
Just trying to figure out if the camera can be set to not take so many pictures of night nothing, if possbile.
If this is normal, then I'll have to stock up on "D"batteries in bulk.
Appreciate any input on this.
