Hey fellas,
i am thinking of buying a beretta al391 for sporting clays and probably some hunting also. Any sporting clay shooters out there. Do you think this would be a good choice for a starter gun for clays. I have done alot of hunting and skeet shootin in the cow pasture so i probably not really a beginner. I have just been wanting a higher end shotgun and i would probably get run off if i showed up to shoot sporting clays with my "ole 870".
I have the 390 don't do any clay shooting but it is the best gun I have had. only jammed a couple of times out in the marsh and that was because I did not notice the mud on the shells, I have shot everything through it, steel, lead, turkey loads even buckshot.
I shoot an old AL-2 and have been shooting it for 25 years. It still looks and shoots like new. I just don't think you can go wrong with Beretta shotguns. AL 391 huh? That's quite a spread when you think about it. I wouldn't take for my old Beretta! Guy
I just bought one this year and have put maybe 1000 rounds through it and it has been great! The clincher in deciding which to buy was talking with several different outfitters from Argentina and most use this as their rental gun--500+ rounds/day sold me on it. They have several different models running from $800-$1600+.
The 391 and the synthetic 390 that Carter's sells ($590) are excellent guns. Th eRem 1100s fit me better so that whats I shoot. Gun fit is everything. I would try them both along with the new Winchester Super X-3. Good luck!
You will not regret buying the AL-391. Finest auto that I have ever owned. You can adjust the rear stock on the Beretta. You can drop it or cast it to the right or left. That helps getting the fit that you desire. That is the reson I bought my first one.

Mine shoots 3" if I put my 20 year old 303 trigger mec in it.
Last year I blew the rib off my old 390 2 weeks before the end of crane season so I went down and bought a new one and the thing has never shucked a 3" shell yet and I have shot 2 cases of dove loads though it thinking it just needed breaking in but.....
I don't know what gun you have shot, but my 391 Urika has never hiccupped ever! I just got back from Salta, Argentina. The only guns the outfitter owns are Berettas 391 (12 and 20) and SIlver Pigeon O/U. Those guns run 30 to 50 boxes of shells per day. They get cleaned each night and they keep on shooting. My Dad and 3 of his buddies also have settled on Beretta 391s after trying Benellis (M1 and SBEs), Browning Golds, Remington 11-87s. I had a Jamelli M1 prior to my 391 and that gun would not shoot 3" shells without stovepiping every second volley. I bought it brand new and throughly cleaned it. I even sent it back once to the factory to get fixed, but had the same problem after I got it back.
I shoot nothing but 3" during waterfowl season, including a case of shells plus in Canada yearly. No problemos with the 391!
Check out the Franch I-12, great gun at a great price!! I hear a lot of good things about the berreta 391. Right now at out local guna store the browning gold hunter and franchi are both about the same price as the berreta. If you have never shot an intertia driven gun like the Franchi or Benelli, you should check it out. Almost no recoil and very fast cycling time for follow up shots. I have yet to have a jam and have put quite a few cases through mine! Also the wood and bluing on mine is very nice.
A have a Baretta demo video about a fellow shooting an A391 Xtrema2; is that the gun you're asking about? The file is too big to post here, but I would be willing to send it to you. It is an awesome video!
