How Much Of A Difference Is The Between Th The 25-06 And 243 ?

Well, the 25-06 is made by necking down a 30-06 case to fit a .257 bullet with about 120 grains maximum bullet weight. The 243 is made by necking down a 308 to fit a .243 bullet with about 105 grains maximum bullet weight. The 25-06 also has greater powder capacity than a 243; and the 25-06 requires a long action bolt where as a 243 fits in a short action bolt.

Not much difference, and the .243 does it with less powder and bang, and the .243's more accurate. Nobody uses a 25-06 for 1000 yd matches, but they use the .243 and all sorts of 6mm's for 1000 yd shoots. .243= 6mm. Guys are winning using a straight .243 winchester, with nice handloads. ammo can be found anywhere.

When is comes to load comparison I'll say the same thing...it's not the arrow it's the Indian. On a personal note I'm a 25-06 guy...it's funny how a heavier bullet can have less recoil. Every 243 I've shot has had some impressive kick for a sub 100gr round.

The only way the .25-06 can have less recoil than a .243 is if the gun is heavier and the .243 is small and light. I have a rem VLS in .243 with bull barrel the thing ways like 14 lbs fully loaded, it feels like my .22 hornet when I shoot it. and I hate the **** thing, I'll never own another bull barrel

The main difference is with the 25-06 you can shoot 120 gr bullets. .243 maxes out at about 100 gr. Again with the fantastic premium bullets available today, there should not be too much difference, unless you're trying to push the envelope on very large canadian whitetails, or mulies out west, or elk. Again, I know they will both do it, but....
