thinking about getting a remington sendero in the 25.06 as i already have one in a 300 win mag. just wondering if its a good deer and hog round. and if its plenty accurate.
yep my dad has been shooting one for years and is an excellent round. I have used it on numerous accounts and have never had an animal run off. plenty accurate
put a good scope on it
One of the best calibers, all around and flat shooting! I have owned 2506 most of my life, got to get one! Made shots out to 475 yards with it 75 grain to 120 grain! Good luck Donk
A lot of people might argue, but I have been really happy with my 25-06 Ruger M77. It has been a great deer/hog gun. Great accuracy and good for anything up to 200 yards. I have had some people try to tell me it's an undersized bullet for big game. Tell that to the dozens of deer I've killed with mine. Never had to chase one.
25-06 is a great round for deer and hogs. Just make sure you break it in correctly and find the ammo that it likes the best. You won't be dissapointed.
whats the recoil compared to? i have 300 win mag in the sendero model and to me it still packs a pretty good punch thats why im wanting to get one in the same model but in the 25.06 cal. by the way thanks for all your in put guys!

I have a remington mod 700 cdl 25.06 and it shoots accurate. Reoil is not bad at all. It comes with the limbsavers R 3 recoil pad installed on it. It's a great gun for the Texas whitetails.
My experience with a 25-06 is that the recoil is a little less than a .270. My Son started hunting deer with a .243 at age 9. The next year he started using my 25-06. he was not a large boy. Never got it back. Great caliber. Very accurate.

Shot one almost exclusively for nearly 20 years. Helluva deer caliber and very acurate. Hopefully, Woodrow will chime in here. He shoots the 25-06 in a Sendero and loves it.
I love my 257 Weatherby Mag., which is just a souped up 25-06 and I have killed all kind of animals with it and love shooting it more than any other gun I have ever owned. I also have a good friend that hunts in different parts of Canada every year and he has told me on numerous times about how thats the only gun (25-06) that the locals and ranchers shoot up there. If that is any indication of how effective the round is. They regularly shoot animals (Whitetails, Muleys, Moose, Etc.) that are not only some of the biggest around but are also some of the hardiest animals in North America.
I also bought a Remm. 700 cdl in 25-06 this year. Because of shoulder surgery, I have not shot it yet, but I will sight in this weekend and hope to find a pig to see how it performs. I will let you know. I bought it because I have a 6mm rem, .280 Rem, 30-06, and 300 wby mag. My wife has a few more than I do, but includes the 7mm-08, .270 and 300 win mag. Just wanted something different, and it is obvious there was a hole in my lineup, LOL.
Good luck with the new gun.

Love the 25-06. It absolutely pole-axes deer and hogs with the 100 gr Barnes TSX. Mine is a custom Savage Tactical, which like the Sendero is scary accurate. I love my 100 gr Barnes TSX like Woodrow loves his 110 gr Nosler Accubonds.
That is the exact gun that I have. I did have a few problems early on with lighter loads. they were very accurate, but the bullet would not hold together. I switched to Nosler Partitiions and solved that problem. I have taken around a dozen kids to kill their first deer in the last few years. We go to the range and shoot a .222 at targets. When they can group fairly well with that, we go to the blind and I always bring my Sendero 25-06. I tell them its the same caliber, and they never flinch. The extra weight reduces kick alot. I am not saying it kicks like a .222, but its not much more.
I just bought a Kimber 25-06 last year after hunting season and I have been very impressed with it's accuracy. I have only punched paper targets with it and I am anxious to try it out on an animal.
I bought my son the thompson/center and he did real well with it and he is 9 going on 10 yrs old, no deer yet just bought it but he tore up the target with it
I have the Sendero in SS Fluted and positively love it. I have had the best luck with the Winchester SilverTips and Hornadys in the 115-117 gr. loads. It's my go to gun...low recoil and spot on out to some pretty impressive ranges.
Ha! I started a new job and haven't been able to get on 2cool in awhile, but I'm eating lunch at my desk today and decided to check in...

I bought a used 25-06 Sendero 3 seasons ago and I love it. You won't be disappointed and you may never touch your 300 again (unless you go after something that is 400+ pounds).
I shoot the 110gr AccuBond (handloaded) and have killed probably 30 or so deer (MLDP) and a couple hogs...love it!
I have a retired uncle here in Kerrville that is ex LEO and shoots paper and handloads rounds for individual guns as a hobby. He buys guns, new and used and works up a load or loads for em to get em as accurate as he can on paper and then moves on to the next gun. The most accurate and easiest gun hes ever worked up a 3 shot, 1/2 inch or better load for was a brand new out of the box, Rem 700 Sendero in .25-06. According to him, it was the easiest (most boring/least challenging) gun hes ever worked up an accurate load for and hes literally got a small box with over 250 index cards in it, each with the recipe and the bullseye from each of the most accurate 3 shot groups from each gun & load. If I remeber correctly the 3 shot group for that particular .25-06 was an inch high at 100 yards and you could cover up all three shots with a dime.

Great caliber, all i've ever shot. Took one at about 425-450 several years ago...never tried that distance and was worried about wounding it, but it was across a canyon and in a pretty clear area so tried it.
Held with about a quarter inch of daylite over its back, and damned if i didnt hit it high wounding it, but hit pretty bad and unable to run far. Fortunately was able to finish him after getting closer to him. Thats the closest i've ever come to losing a deer with that caliber, other than flat out missing one once. Operator error. ha
