Anybody piggyback a kayak in boat to get shallow?

I have a 19ft Kenner VX and I love the boat for getting across big choppy bays but it stinks for getting very shallow. Was thinking about getting kayak to carry on boat to get into back lakes and flats that I just can't get within a mile of with my boat. Anybody else do this and if so is it worth the effort?

Lots of people piggyback or mothership kayaks in boats to do exactly what youre intdnding to do. Ive done it a few times to get to venado lakes to make the initial trip faster so i could paddle up in the back lakes early and shallow.

I've done it before. If you're fishing backlakes for reds it's definitely worth it. It's really not that much trouble depending on the size and weight of your yak

I do it all the time. I can rest 2 kayaks in my flats boat, one on either side of the console. I use a pair of these (1 in front, one in back) to keep kayak from rubbing on the boat. Works pretty well.

kayak fishing

Westtexan, the satellite fishing out of a kayak can be a real blast. I run a real skinny water boat and i will still throw the kayaks on board for back water fishing. It can be an enjoyable alternative to wading. You have the perfect boat for doing what you are talking about. I would suggest a relatively short kayak something like a Tarpon 120 or an Ocean Caper. you can actually stand and sight fish out of both these boats if you have decent balance. Hit your spot, paddle back to the boat, load and go to your next spot. Good luck hope you enjoy the fishing.

Do you make sure you always keep your mothership in sight when you're on the yak? I'd worry about security...

I run a boat that's shorter than some kayaks out there (14.5 Cat) for this reason. It's just like a kayak except it runs 30+ mph.

I have actually thought about taking my kayak along but don't really care to leave my boat behind and out of sight for obvious reasons.

I was wondering same thing but then it would kinda defeat the purpose. I could see my self being gone from the boat all day.

Ditto. My next one will be some sort of camo colored theme.
