What I do when some weird stuff, and it happens, is to shutdown and restart. I shut it down for at least 5 minutes then restart, hopes this help.

That didn't work,,,,,,,,, I next clicked on View>Large Icons boy they are big but now I can't get rid of them

I tried adding anew link and changing its name to one of the missing icons and I get a message that says its already there,,,,,,,,,,,,so I guess the problem is they are not gone just hidden,What now coach?

The problem now is that the grid on the desktop is to large.I probably had it shut off so I could get the number Of shortcut Icons displayed and I just had them tucked in tight,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if there is a way to make the grid smaller then I'm back in business.I was able to recover all missing Icons by dragging and dropping an existing Icon into a shortcut folder, this made room for the missing icon to display itself,if that makes any sense

Thanks thats good to know,,,,,,,,,,the problem was someone had selected icon grid placement and then tried to fix and things got all out of kilter.I found if I did a drag and drop of an icon to a new folder one of the missing icons would appear in its place. I did this with all then manually repopulated the desktop with the grid shut off and placed them on a much smaller visual grid.I must have done that before and had forgotten it.
