getting started reloading

I have never reloaded but have been watching a few videos on youtube and decided i would be interested in trying this. Calibers of choice to begin reloading would be 7mm rem mag & 257 roberts. I was hoping i could get some info on the basic equipment and tools i would need to get started. Also where I can get all of it at. Also the best book to reference powder loads, overall bullet lengths, ect.... Any info would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks
Jeremy

Best place to get all of what you need

http://www.midwayusa.com/category/reloading
https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.c...61%64%69%6E%67
http://www.sinclairintl.com/aspx/gen...reloading.html
http://www.grafs.com/

I would recommend getting a single stage reloading kit from the big names like RCBS, Redding, Forster or Lee.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/898...ss-pro-pak-kit

Some of the kits come with a reloading manual as part of the deal but if not then buy a reloading manual from one of the bullet or powder manufacturers like Nosler, Sierra, Barnes, Speer, Hodgdon, Alliant, IMR etc. Once you get the book read the front pages which is usually an explanation of the reloading methods. Then they have the load data for each caliber which will give the miminum and maximum loads per bullet weight and caliber, live by it for awhile.

You can also go to any of the Carter Country gun stores in Houston and they will have the most reloading stuff. Another is 10 Ring in NW Houston on Jones Road. Academy, Gander Mtn or Bass Pro don't have much. You will need a few other items to get started like dies for your caliber and a caliper, you can get either on-line or at the stores. Don't know about Bay City but there may be a store out your way with some stuff.

If you want to go basic to begin with then Lee makes some great stuff at a reasonable price. RCBS makes everything and they will stand behind their products 100%. Forster and Redding are considered to be top of the line in most cases.

You can also go to other sites to read and do searches on topics you have a question about (just ignore the egos and pi$$ing contests)

http://www.reloadersnest.com/forum/default.asp (good site for beginners)
http://www.noslerreloading.com/phpBB2/index.php (another good site for beginners)
http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve (some bad-mojo but mostly helpful posters)
http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php (probably the oldest and largest site with the most egos)
http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/ (most knowledgeable and detailed but some of the posts will go way over your head until you have a lot of reloading behind you)

Lee makes a great single stage economical kit for around $125 at Cabelas. Made 3k plus loads with no issues. Just pick a book from a bullet manufacturer and go from there. Thehighroad.com is kind of the 2cool equivalent. They always seem to pop up when I google questions.

Carter's usually has everything, avoid buying powder online because then you have pay extra shipping for hazardous material.

To be honest I got started on Craig's List. Found a young guy just out of Abilene with the RCBS Rockchucker kit. Paid $200 for it. Had a die set I needed, some primers, scale, funnel, oil pad and bottle of lube, two loading blocks and he had purchased a small sigle leg table to mount the press on. I did that but took it off pretty quickly. Way too much shaking around and no real support for the press. It worked out because my wife has family in Abilene so she visited while I was working the deal. By the way none of the equipment had been used. Said he bought it to reload but just never had the time. Deals are everywhere. You just have to look for them.

I started out with the Lee single stage press KIT too and while I hated the manual scale it really was a great place to start. If you want to get the book, so that first and read it and as many forums as you can...the more info the better. I started like this and ended up upgrading to a progressive and really enjoy reloading....weird I know!

I don't like the lightweight lee press in the cheap starter kit as it has a lot of flex sizing rifle rounds in my experience. The Less classic cast is a much better press.

Basic starter kits are otherwise the way to go for a beginner IMO...unless you can find a retiring reloader and buy out their tools.
