newdollar Newbie Question - Shimano Spinning Reels

I have just taken up fishing and my buddy recommended a Shimano spincast reel for fishing mostly in Galveston Bay from his boat but possibly some freshwater fishing as well.

So I go to Academy and look at some Shimano Reels and can't seem to tell from the packaging what the difference is from one to the other. The gentleman at the counter said he had no idea

Remembering something my father told me when I was a kid "All this stuff is to catch fishermen not fish", I thought I would post a question to see if someone here knows....since it is Shimano product support.

Basically what is the difference between the following.

Shimano Symetric $99
Shimano Saharo $79
Shimano Sedona $49
Shimano Solstace $39

I get the idea you get what you pay for and all that but just wanted to know if there is any major factor that would have you recommend going one way or the other.

Thanks everyone!
Dave

The major difference between all of these reels is bearings and material used to make the frame. The Symetre and Sahara use aluminum for the frame and have S-ARB bearings. I would go with either of these models.

Thanks, that is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for.
