people make mistakes, even LEO's. the fact that he called and apologized is a big thing in my mind (although i'm surprised he did so).

I agree. Want to be a LEO? Act like one and ALWAYS be an example, if not, put down the badge, gun and honor and go screw off somewhere else.

To **** bad! They are paid to do a job and thats enforce laws and WHILE abiding them. Im not bashing LEO's in general, as there are many fine ones around, esp on this board, BUT, there are pathetic ones as well. If I screwed off at my job I'd be fired, they screwoff or screw up, where is the punishment, the ramifications, I feel are not there. Anyone living in SL knows this for a FACT.

I was quite surprised to hear this as well. Good on him, maybe others can take note and follow the rules like they should be doing. What a fricking idea?!

This wasn't an accident. The First Line stated he was in a hurry to catchthe UPS man. Accidents are accidnets. he was speeding on purpose. I have many times been driving and looked down and be oh Shat....and had to slow down. That happens. This as unnacceptable. He owned up and apologized and that is respectable.

bull----.
i believe in a non-emergency situation, cops are supposed to obey the traffic laws just like everyone else. to say that cops get to disobey the law because they have more authority is horse poo poo.

I took the car number down and called the Dept.talked to his Sargent and got a call two days later from him saying, that he was NOT in an emergency and that he was hurrying to get home to catch the UPS man......wtf!? then the cop called me and said he was sorry.I just needed to vent ...just not cool, when he flew by me all i could see were those three little kids scurrying across the street.

This is why he called. His Sergeant ordered him to and will probably make a follow up call to make sure the officer complied.

Sorry, being forced to apologize doesn't really hold a lot of water in my book. Sure, cops are human, and they put a lot on the line: that being said, they're also supposed to be a cut above the rest: That's about the most blatant dereliction of the duty to "set a good example" as there is: speeding? Whatever. Speeding through an active school zone for something like this? No way, bubba. All that authority we vest them with comes with a price, and ALWAYS acting like a responsible adult is part of that price...

what a crock of ****. People saying it was enough for him to just call and apologize? He didn't make a mistake he made a decision. There is a huge difference. When citizens break the law they don't get to call the mayor and apologize they are ticketed heavily. He should have been ticketed by his superior officer and had to pay it or go to court like every other person in the world. If officers ever want to gain back the respect of the public they will start taking real responsibility and punishing officers who have blatant disregard for the law. If this guy puts my kids life in jeopardy over a UPS package I wonder what he would do under real pressure?
