Stradic 1000 FI

I have a Shimano Stradic 1000 FI that I have owned for less than a year. The covering on the side cover is peeling away. I also have lots of corrosion between the knob and the handle shank assembly. I wash it with water after every use and keep it in a closet in my house. What can I do to get this fixed and what else should I be doing after using it?

Do you spray it with anything else or do you just use freshwater?

Spray it with freshwater liberally.
