I hate to say or post this but In my mind Im thinking maybe its just a defected one. I can't believe I couldn't lift a 26" blacktip with the TLD25 ion a 80 to 130lb class rod. With 40lb test and 120lb wire, the son of a biscut wouldn't crank him up. Any suggestions or should I just change to the Torium 50? Oh, by the way this is the 2nd time the reel has seen water. I still have the Box. Darn it. Any suggestions. It still doesn't change the fact that I love your product, overall the torium 30 and TLD 15 star drag are my favorites, (Unos Perros) these two are my personal dogs for king and ling.
Have you set the drag yet?? TLD have a great drag system and if your not carefull you can over set the drag resulting in total lockdown and line breakage.
Put the lever in "free" and turn the little round knob clockwise, then lift the lever to the strike position and check it out. If it is to your liking, put n in full and try to pull some drag out...
I assume you are saying that the reel does not have enough cranking power? How much drag pressure have you set the reel for? You should have 11-12 pounds at strike.
Hey Bantam, the spool is on free spool or with very little tension, Screaming reel is like music to my ears, once on, I set the drag according to my liking, as I mentioned I just couldn't crank him up. I'm taking her out for another run this will be the third time, I'll double check her maybe it was me, as for the drag it locks or bites down reel good. Keep ya posted.
I recommend that you use a scale and set the drag correctly to start with. If you are using 40# line then it should be around 12 pounds of drag. This needs to be adjusted while the line is running through the rod.
The TLD25 does not have very large gears. This reel was designed in the late 1980's and will not have the cranking power of the more modern reels.
I fish with a tdl 25 and have no problems with 40+lb fish. I would double check everything to make sure you have the proper settings or if its the worst case a bad reel i would check everything out first, good luck with it.
